What should we bring?
When coming for your session plan your clothing carefully ( see below). Take clothes that make a definate statement about you if you want to achieve a certain type of look - You may also bring props that reflect your interests ( Guitars, Skateboard, horseriding gear etc). Note : If you are coming as a group, then please read point 3 below.
What is best to wear for my photograph?
In essence there are no right and wrong things to wear, try and choose something that you look good and feel good in.
Below are listed some helpful hints when planning for your portrait.
1. The simpler the outfit the better (unless you are trying to make a particular statement with your clothing) try to avoid busy patterns, stripes and large logos. This keeps the attention on the subject rather than their clothes or who made them (GAP, Hugo Boss. etc)
2. Classic V’s Fashion Classic clothes will not date as quickly as the latest fashions, therefore creating a timeless photograph however fashionable clothes do create more interesting photographs that are very much of the time they were produced.
3. It is best in portraits of more than person that a decision is made with regard to the style of the finished portrait. Don’t mix formal with casual so try and all come in the same. Exactly the same principles work for the colour scheme again all wearing similar tones will greatly enhance your photograph. the keyword here is all. Modern fresh portraits look great in jeans with white shirts or t shirts modern classics look great with everyone dressed in black or dark shades.
4. Consider how you want to look dark clothes emphasise the face and have a slimming effect in the portraits. Try and avoid short sleeves as more attention is drawn to the arms and sometimes sleeves tops can make some peoples arms look bigger than desired.
5. For more casual shots and especially with children we ask our sitters to have bare feet as this minimises the size of the feet when they can be tucked up nicely rather than great big soles of shoes.
What about hair and make up?
Your normal make-up is fine; it’s a myth that you require extra make up for photography. Please have your make up done before you arrive and bring some powder to reduce any shine that may occur from the heat of the lights. Hair should be washed and styled as you like it. Avoid trying a new style just before your shoot as it may be the one thing you don’t like about the photograph.
Important things about childrens sessions.
Children’s sessions are usually better in the morning; we do not take young children after 3pm as we generally find they are getting tired and loose interest quicker. It is important that your children & babies are have slept will and are feeling their best, so please schedule your appointment for a time in the day that are at their happiest. If you feel that you children are not feeling at their best the please feel free to reschedule as we wish to capture them one time AT THEIR BEST.
The idea about kids sessions is to make the whole thing fun!
Please do not stress and make a big fuss about the shoot as it will have the opposite affect we are looking for. The more relaxed that you are about the whole thing, the better your children will be in the studio. We have a great way with children and look for them to have great fun and show their true personalities in their photographs.
During the shoot we ask that you sit quietly during the session and allow us to work our magic. Some parents prefer to watch the studio session from just outside the studio door in order for the children to express themselves more vividly. Please don't mention the SMILE word or use any form of bribery or worry too much about what they are doing, just be patient and allow us to create some beautiful shots for you. Bring some of their favourite toys preferable ones that you don’t mind appearing in the picture. Let them dress up as well as bringing their nicest clothes for the shoot, let them bring any dressing up outfits to allow them to have more fun.
How do you view your photographs?
After the shoot is finished you will be asked to make another appointment for a soon as a few days after the session. At this appointment all the images will be projected onto a large screen in our viewing room. We will assist you by a process of elimination to choose your favourite shots. The viewing appointments also last for one hour to give us time to show you the images, edit them down to your final choices and view the products you can choose from and the choice of frames or canvases that you wish to have.
Please ensure that all decision makers are present at this one of appointment and if possible do not bring children to the viewing as you allow you to concentrate on making important decisions. (1st Viewing session is included in your portrait session fee, subsequent viewings are charged at £45)
Please be aware that we do not at any time work with or produce proofs we only view by way of our studio viewings. In the event of family being abroad etc you may ask for the images to be displayed on our web site (a fee may apply), there family will be able to purchase copies.
